Catheter Ablation

A minimally invasive procedure used to treat abnormal heart rhythms

Catheter ablation is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias) by targeting and eliminating the source of the irregular electrical signals in the heart.

As an electrophysiologist, I specialise in diagnosing and treating complex arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardias (SVT), atrial flutter, and ventricular tachycardia. Catheter ablation offers a curative option for many of these conditions, especially when medications are ineffective, poorly tolerated, or not desired.

How the Procedure Works

Thin, flexible wires called catheters are inserted through a vein (usually in the groin) and guided into the heart using 3D mapping and imaging technology. Once the area causing the arrhythmia is identified, targeted energy, most commonly radiofrequency (heat) or cryoablation (cold), is delivered to ablate the abnormal tissue and restore normal rhythm.

Conditions Treated

  • Atrial Fibrillation (AF)
  • Atrial Flutter
  • Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)
  • Ventricular Tachycardia (VT)
  • Premature Ventricular Contractions (PVCs)

Benefits of Catheter Ablation

  • High success rates for many arrhythmias
  • Minimally invasive with quick recovery
  • Reduces or eliminates the need for long-term medication
  • Improves quality of life and reduces hospital admissions

Why Choose an Electrophysiologist?

Catheter ablation requires advanced training in cardiac electrophysiology. As a board-certified electrophysiologist, I utilise the latest technology and evidence-based techniques to ensure precise, effective, and safe outcomes tailored to each patient’s unique condition.

How can I stay informed during this process?

  • Always ask for an explanation of your results before you go home.
  • Write down or note any changes in your heart rhythm.
  • Organise a support system to help you with errands while you recover.

Catheter insertion can play a key role in understanding and managing certain health conditions.

Choose your heart health

You deserve clear answers and guidance during the process. We provide you with the information you need every step of the way. If you are worried or do not understand something, ask for clarity. Being proactive can help you feel more comfortable and confident about your heart health.
